Adhinayakudu Movie Review

Posted on 22:53 by Dilip Kumar

Finally Nandamuri Balakrishna’s much touted political entertainer “Adhinayakudu” has come to the screens. With Political unrest prevailing in the state with Bi-elections on their way, Dialogues shown in the movie trailers certainly brought some interest. Let us check out the substance of the film beyond those trailers. Movie is directed by Paruchuri Murali

Plot: Story is about three generations…. Harishchandra Prasad who fights for the poor in the Rayalaseema region and tries to remove the factionism from that area. And then his son Rama Krishna Prasad who protects his father and follows his footsteps. And the current generation Krishna who was away from family grows up as contract Killer. Story has some twists that create the ridge between these 3 generations. Should watch the movie for it!!

Balayya…Balayya…Balayya…
Not 1…Not 2…But 3 this time…. Harish Chandra Prasad is get up that is made for Balakrishna. Reminds us of senior NTR’s Badi pantulu…His act in this is so dignified with Rayalaseema slang.  Some good dialogues about leadership etc were spelled by this character. A very good role that can be preserved forever in Balayya’s career. And look for that white safari get up in one crucial scene. (Get up stands beside that of Chennakesava reddy)
Second character Rama Krishna Prasad is filled with ever anger. He spills few political one-liners to entice one section of audiences. Action episodes designed for this character are superb. Scores next to Old character.
And Third one Kittu is good enough. The entry sequence as TV reporter in ministers home sets nice tone...and his comedy with brahmandam is superb. But Balakrishna is seen with loads of weight for this character. If little slimmer, it would have been better.

JayaSudha is seen in very good role. LakshmiRai takes the opportunity to heat up the screen for a while. Sukanya is fine.
Brahmanandam is well utilized by the director…The “MARS-ALIEN”concept is fantastic. Theatre jumped and laughed for those comedy bits.
Kota is subtle and good. Murali Sharma is ok. Pradeep Rawat enjoyed the full length role, more than he deserves.

Nice blend of dialogues, violence and drama
First thing you look in Balakrishna’s film are dialogues. And this time they being political, they gained more attention. Few related to his political entry and power and Father/family are seen all through. And there are few satires on opposition. But this kind of war of words seems to have no end.
Dialogue on s/w engineers : "veella vallane raa...ee bhoomi ki boom ochindi,  vaaru stalalu kona koodadaa"
Ram-Lakshman composed very good action sequences. Especially for the Bearded Balakrishna, The one at the mines protecting his father...one near foreign delegates where he drags a man with axe in his neck are simply great.
Then there is some story involved that is related to strained relations of three generations. One could say it’s not entirely logical, but film finally has some story to tell.

First and Second halves
Entry sequences related to Minister’s son sets the nice tone to the film. Lakshmi Rai’s skin show should entertain front benchers… And Brahmanandam-Balakrishna’s “MARS-ALIEN” concept filled the theatre with laughs and aptly supports first half.
Second half shifts to family part. Initial 20 minutes where we have back-ground song slightly confuses the audience. Not everything can be conveyed in song.  But the flashback episode sufficiently engages the audience till the climax. Fight sequences and dialogues never let the pace down.
Kalyani Malik gives nice background score, though he provides that 80’s kind of masala music.

Drawbacks….
Had it been better heroine and great songs, the first half should have been much better. Even overweight and old looks of Balakrishna could be noticed by many. Conveying key dramatic scenes (like where younger one breaks family photo) in a song is not a good idea. Where are the Villains??? For a powerful story like this, it needs couple of more…rather than carrying forward Pradeep Rawat forever. And Old style narration gives you 90's feel for a while.

Finally….
Yet one more director “Paruchuri Murali” knows how to handle Balakrishna. This guy earlier directed “Nee Sneham” and “Aandhrudu”. Balakrishna fans will have grand gala time for the three roles, especially first two for nice variation and portrayal of those powerful roles. Ample amount of Dialogues and violence. Others if you liked Simha, there are chances you might like this too. Will have a great run at B-C centers and release time and no other Mass film in near future will work for “Adhinayakudu”.

My rating:
3 for all the positives and rightly executing Balakrishna’s film.
