Ramcharan has taken a complete mass route after the success of Rachcha and that is clearly evident from his movies on board. This time specialist in mass movies, V. Vi”Nayak” held the “Mega”phone to blend all possible mass elements in his latest “Naayak”. Let’s check out if this “Double” mass intender hits the bulls eye like it did for Rachcha.
Plot ( Not a spoiler so far J ): Cherry is a software guy, but reacts very hard to the social issues and he loves the sister(Kajal) of local Rowdy. Series of murders happen in Calcutta and Hyderabad and it is the duty of CBI officer(Ashish Vidyardi) to connect those things and find the suspect. What is the heroes connection with both the cities forms the crux.
Small Spoiler Alert: For the sake of essence, I need to reveal slight “Interval” twist in the review. People who follow regular movie websites and news already know about the same.****Spoiler ahead**** Others can avoid reading the review if you dont know the hero played dual role.
Ramcharan and others.
Ramcharan as usual mesmerizes with the dance moments. While “Laila O Laila” and “Hey Naayak” give way to whistles, he left no song wasted. He is good enough in action sequences and his small punch dialogues. In addition few funny lines gives certain scope for variety. Though he did a double role, there is no variation shown and that is the best as far this film is concerned and it has given a variety in this sort. Definitely he climbed a step ahead and much confidence is seen in massy role. He should even choose variety sorts to expand his choices in massy roles.
Kajal is good and is purely committed to songs. Amala Paul competed with her in lessening her screen space. While Kajal got 2 songs, Amala gets one but “Subhaleka raasukunna”.
Major comedy comes unexpected from Jayaprakash Reddy in first half with his continuous commentary and Posani’s superb one-liners in second half. Dookudu stars Brahmi and MS Narayana are partially successful and partially routine. Rajeev kanakala is effective in short stint.
Rahul Dev lost his charm. Kota and Pradeep rawat, Raghubabu are routine. Magadheera villain Dev gill is ok( may be there for sentiment).
First and second halves:
Generally mass entertainers go with a regular first half and serious flashback and then blend the same. Vinayak slightly made a twist with two heroes and two stories and blended them in latter part. This definitely is variety of its sort. But the plots he has chosen for two parts don’t offer freshness. But at the same time, he threw nice one-liners from Jayaprakash and Posani in two halves and made sure he extracted those laughs. Songs came as relief in violent vinayak’s film and they are all pictured well. But I felt such exotic locations can still be shown well. He made sure that mass hero is always “God”. But the depth and emotion as in Tagore is missing for sure. And there are no super hilarious episodes as Vinayak has in his previous films like "Krishna" and double plots might be heavy dosage.
Shiny points…
Vinayak has not completely taken the audiences senses for granted. He injected small doses of good things here and there. And the hilarious action by Posani and Jayaprakash ensures the laughs. Akula Siva has provided okayish main plot, but he has sprinkled good dialogues over all.
Once Posani says: “okare muddu anedi kevelam family planning varake, cinemaallo rajakiyaallo entha mandi oste antha muddu”. And Ramcharan says…”Media pani cheyaalsindi public kosam, publicity kosam kaadu” of course true.
There is hilarious Rowdy’s disco scene in second half that should bring some laughs and the pre-climax has nice twist. Thaman songs are ok and background score is fine. And there is something in store for Pawan's fans too, sure fans would love that.
And here's the best:
One dialogue by Rajeev Kanakala about Mother Theresa’s caring nature for society is effective. ( watch it on screen) Dealing some social issues like child labour and female exploitation is appreciable.

Final gist:
This is definite mass film from the title and trailers so should be devoid of logic and variety. But certain freshness would have made it dearer to every audience out there as there is mass and class in every individual. “Naayak” should only be a decent grosser based on grand release and fan base.
Score:
60/100
